Walter Wittick collection, 1886-1976 (bulk, 1886-1942).

Summary: Collection consists of correspondence among the Ben Wittick family of Moline, Illinois (1886-1942), a photograph of Leila F. Wittick (wife of Ben Wittick), a U.S. Geological Survey sketchbook containing a few Ben Wittick drawings, and a clipping concerning stereoscope view cards (1976). The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence among Ben Wittick and his children, Mamie Wittick Maxwell, Charles Wittick, and Tom Wittick (who legally changed his name to Frank Averill). Correspondence primarily discusses family subjects. A letter of note is Tom Wittick's letter which describes a trip he made with his father, Ben Wittick, to Fort Moroni, Utah to visit the Mohave Indians in 1883.

He married May Wickham from Phoenix, Arizona in 1907, continued to work mining claims in the Huron, Arizona area, and was shot in Prescott, Arizona in 1910.
